Days of last and the walk to the sea
Gandhi was one of the biggest impacts that ever touched India. On the day that gandhi announced his three day feast in Ahmedabad a british general ordered the massacre of unarmed indian peasants in Amritsar. The official count had been 400 dead and between 1,000 and 2,000 wounded, Gandhi's count was 1,200 dead and 3,600 wounded. Following this act of cowardice and discrimination, Gandhi's drive for equality showed more then ever. Some say that he "re-created" the Indian congress and his story from there on was how congress won the battles it took for India's freedom.
The first thing Gandhi did on his path was he returned all of his medals and awards he received for his work for the Government. The actions of Gandhi spread and soon many Indians gave up their tittles. College students left college, workers gave up their positions. Many city living residents traveled far and wide to spread the idea of non-cooperation and non-violence to the ignorant farm folks. Gandhi's words spread afar. Many people gave up their freedom for this cause. They were arrested and captured for not but one thing. To spread freedom an the idea of non-violence and tolerance throughout the world.
On March 12,1930 Gandhi was on his road to retirement. He had spent many years of his life working for the greater good and now he was starting to wind down. However this next event shocked the world. On this day Gandhi and 78 other men and women began their 24 day march to the sea. They went through with this walk because of the law passed stating that a poor man could not make his own salt.
On April 6, 1930 early in the morning Gandhi walked down to the waters edge and picked up a clump of salt. This small action caused a riot around the world. Many men and women were arrested all around the world because of their marches. Gandhi himself was arrested but was released because he was needed at round table meetings.
On August 9, 1942 gandhi was arrested yet another time. This time his arrest took a toll on his he alt and life. While in prison his wife and his close secretary had died. While in prison Gandhi also contracted Malaria and his condition worsened and he was eventually released.
During his last years of life Gandhi fasted and fasted every time there was a dispute. And people came to him each time he fasted. They prayed with him and they confessed their wrongs. During his non-violent fight for the stop towards the murders of Muslims and Hindus Gandhi was killed in one of his prayers.
January 30, 1948 was the day India lost their light. While allowing people to touch his feet before prayers as is the traditions, a man came up and shot three rounds toward Gandhi's chest. Gandhi died in the hands of His people, murmuring the name of god.
