Truth, God, Secrecy, Guidance, Self- Sacrifice, Defeat, Trust, Leadership, and Work
" I know the path. It is straight and narrow. It is like the edge of a sword. I rejoice to walk on it. I weep when I slip. God's word is: 'He who strives never perishes.' I have implicit faith in that promise. Though, therefore, from my weakness I fail a thousand times, I will not lose faith, but hope that I shall see the Light when the flesh has been brought under perfect subjection, as some day it must.
My soul refuses to be satisfied so long as it is a helpless witness of a single wrong or a single misery. But it is not possible for me, a weak, frail, miserable being, to mend every wrong or to hold myself free of blame for all the wrong I see.
The spirit in me pulls one way, the flesh in me pulls in the opposite direction. There is freedom from the action of these two forces, but that freedom is attainable only by slow and painful stages.
I cannot attain freedom by a mechanical refusal to act, but only by intelligent action in a detached manner. This struggle resolves itself into an incessant crucifixion of the flesh so that the spirit may become entirely free. " - Gandhi
What you have just read is Gandhi's philosophy in a nutshell. Basically what Gandhi is saying is that his philosophy is to trust in god because he will lead you to where you will need to be. In the quote, "He who strives never perishes." I think that this is trying to say that you will fail but is you strive for the best and you keep trying you will never fall. Gandhi believes in 9 main things.
The first, Search for truth. As Gandhi explains reasoning behind this he mentions that to find truth you must be a perfect man, and since no one is a perfect man, no one has yet found truth.
The second, Trust in God. Gandhi says that if it was no for his trust in god, he would have no trust in his own species. He will not be a traitor to the lord just to please the world.
The third, No secrets. Gandhi believes in no secrets. He has no secrets and he encourages no secrets.
The fourth, guidance. Mahatma does not have guidance that never fails or falls. He does not think that he is a visionary, or a saint. He believes he is equal. He believes he has seen the world through open eyes. He has experienced the ordeals many a man has gone through. But he is not Infallible.
The fifth, self-sacrifice. This comes before every battle. Non- Violent or Violent. If stand alone against the whole world, you must stand strong. If you look at the world and the world stares back at you shooting knives through your eyes you must stand strong.
The sixth, Do not give into defeat. Even in your darkest hours still be the light, even when there seems to be no hope left, keep pushing forward. Take care of the now and prepare for the future. There is nothing you can do about it now. God has not given you the power to take care of the future.
The seventh, trust. Even if you have been deceived before trust again. Gandhi believes in trust, and he never once in his life has ever broken a promise. Even if a promise was broken to him.
The eighth, have leadership. A bad general will blame his men for a loss. Gandhi believes he is not a bad general. He believes he has seen the world and does understand human nature. Gandhi believes that god will take him away once his leadership is no longer needed.
The ninth, Work. Gandhi believes that he ha a job to do. His job, to assure every human that he or she no matter the circumstance, is responsible for oneself and their respect and liberty.
In short; Gandhi believed in those nine things. If you live by god and his rules you will live a pure life. You are your own guide.
